Hello Blog

So I've been back at my student hostel for a few days now, my room is decorated and mostly unpacked, there is a bit of food (and beer) in my fridge and (most) of my textbooks have been purchased and propped up on my shelf. Now all I need to do is make some friends in my hostel. There are a few of the old faces from last year, but not enough to really qualify as a 'group' of friends. What is the collective noun for friends? But how to go about this friend-making process? My cousin suggested inviting people round for a gregorian chanting session and offering them holy water and tin hats, but I don't have enough tinfoil to make all the hats. My mum suggested baking muffins and going door to door sharing them, but my baking might kill off all my prospective buddies. My oddly aggressive friend suggested tackling people in the hallways, but my first attempt at that means my new 'friend' now avoids eye contact when we're both in the lift. My new flatmate has a group of fellow exchange student friends already, but seems reluctant to bring them round since I warned her that I talk to myself and sometimes sing showtunes. So until I get some better ideas, I'm stuck standing unusually close to people in the otherwise empty lift. I have to say, there are a lot of people living on the first floor this year.
